Seniors
Safety for Seniors
Next to young children, seniors are the next highest risk category in terms of fire deaths. Again the issue is mobility and exiting.
Careless smoking caused one of every four senior fire deaths. Avoid smoking when drowsy. Attend to cooking. Use oven mitts when cooking.
Falls can happen at any age, but falls resulting in severe injury and death are greatest among seniors. Each year 7,000 seniors die as a result of a fall. This can happen because of changes in muscle and bone strength, hearing, and vision. Medications can also affect balance and coordination.

Station Tours
Public education tours are available at all three fire stations. The ideal group size is 6-20 people. The age range is best from pre-school all the way up to seniors. Special accommodations can be made for larger groups and evening hours. We have a lot of Cub Scouts, youth groups, cay care providers and many other different groups come to see the fire station and all the equipment. The department can accommodate interested parties almost any time and also deliver a presentation on fire education prior to the tour if you'd like. The tour and the program will be customized to ensure age appropriate materials. You are welcome at any of the three stations.
