On February 4, 2008 West Metro Fire-Rescue District the probationary firefighter class of 2008 began their two year training program with the West Metro Fire-Rescue District. On April 8, 2009 The West Metro Fire-Rescue District Board will recognized their promotion to the rank of apprentice firefighters. Over the past year these individuals have been certified by the Minnesota State Fire Certification Board to the levels of Firefighter II and Hazardous Materials Operational. They have also earned their First Responder Certification from Minnesota’s Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board. As apprentice firefighters their next area of competency will be in the area of Fire Apparatus Operator. They will spend the summer working on driving emergency vehicles, emergency vehicle preventive maintenance, pump operations, pump principles and construction, hydraulic theory, fire ground flow and pressure calculations. When they have completed this training they will attain certification to the level of FAO III.
